Chibunna's path to ETA started in a classroom and ended with a mission.

He was first introduced to Entrepreneurship Through Acquisition at Duke Fuqua through Professor David Robinson's Finance 898 course. That idea stayed with him. He continued learning from Fuqua alumni who had acquired and operated businesses, and received guidance through Duke's Innovation & Entrepreneurship advisory council.

When Chibunna transitioned into healthcare investment banking, the principles of ETA came back into focus: value creation, disciplined decision-making, long-term stewardship. In 2025, he acquired Veterans Room, a behavioral health platform serving veterans, where he is now focused on building and scaling a system worthy of those who served.

"NMC played a meaningful role in helping me successfully acquire Veterans Room. The cohort model gave me access to a community of acquisition entrepreneurs who provided perspective, accountability, and support throughout the search and diligence process. Equally valuable was NMC's ecosystem of transaction resources, partners, and evaluation frameworks, which helped me assess opportunities more rigorously and execute with greater confidence."

Why ETA?

Chibunna's connection to healthcare runs deep. With over a decade of experience in healthcare, including healthcare investment banking, Chibunna saw this opportunity as a chance to create meaningful value and improve outcomes for a deserving population that has made extraordinary sacrifices in service to our nation.

Acquiring Veterans Room was a deliberate next step. Veterans are among the most underserved populations in behavioral health, and this business gave Chibunna the opportunity to close that gap — and build something that reflects what those who served actually deserve.

Ownership In Action

Chibunna is in the thick of the operator phase, learning the business from the inside out while driving meaningful change from day one. Veterans Room has relaunched its brand and is undergoing a full overhaul of its operational systems and processes to create greater efficiency and achieve targeted outcomes.

A three-month rebranding effort, led by a marketing partner, resulted in a new identity and digital presence that reflects the organization's mission, values, and ambitions.

Impact & Insights

The impact shows up in real time. Chibunna answers the phone for the practice after hours and on weekends, a choice that has given him firsthand experience of the difference Veterans Room is making in the lives of the veterans it serves. The gratitude from partners and the testimonies from clients make the mission tangible.

Advice to Others

“In the many twists and turns and shifts in emotions of joy, discomfort, or neutrality throughout the ETA, always anchor yourself on answering this question: ‘What am I solving for?’”
